Once again life is complete when you have a belly full of food and drinks...
This time we (my whole family) went off to pig out on seafood!!!
Actually the original plan was to go to a place called Sea Sky Seafood Restaurant
Which is the one in the picture above..but as we walked in..it was sort of deserted and it doesn't really look like how a restaurant should look..in this aspect I'm talking about the ambiance and the crowd of happy people stuffing their faces and the busy kitchens and the harassed waiters/waitresses and...you all know what I mean..when we walked into the restaurant it was like the setting out of a Stephen King's novel (courtesy of sis)..There were only a few patrons there and the entire area was all like dead...The tables were only sparsely occupied..so when the waiter lead us to a SEA FRONT table..my dad took one look at the opposite restaurant (which was teeming with life...)..declined and took us to the next door restaurant which was named
Compared to Sea Sky Seafood Restaurant..this was the hub of all activity..the place was crowded and it gave off really positive vibes unlike the other one..so happily we all sat down and ordered..and here is the food for tonight~
Ordered this as my drink..It's coconut can't really say much about it
Ok this is the veggie dish I know that the photo isn't all retouched to make the dish look interesting and I do know that 'a picture's worth a thousand words' but you'll just have to trust me on this one =)
This dish is known as 'choy dam' ..it's just basically stir fried vegetables but it's a good compliment to any dish and of course white rice..stir fried in this sense is actually cooking the vegetables with garlic and shallots then making a gravy out of corn starch for the veg..and it's superb..
This dish is actually some er..bamboo clam..so this is cooked with dark soy sauce but to me it was sort of a let down as I didn't really enjoy the dish..the natural sweetness of the flesh was overwhelmed by the garnishing and the sauce but the texture was a okay~
I'll have to say this was my favourite dish of the whole night..it's actually Deep Fried Nestum and prawns..they literally deep fry the Nestum with sugar and prawns to create this dish..It's a walking heart attack waiting to happen but I don't care..it tastes SCRUMPTIOUS! It's worth risking heart attack for..
The prawns are tender on the inside and crispy and sweet on the outside..complimented perfectly by the sweet Nestum..can you say OM NOM NOM?
Next is the CRABS!! I'm a real crab lover..and so I naturally was happy when we ordered crabs..
This dish is done sweet and sour style which is crab soak in sweet and sour sauce..
and to me..it was a letdown..though I did eat a lot of this dish (nearly 2 crabs) but the meat was not succulent enough in fact it was borderline tough and the sauce was not spicy enough..
And those deep fried buns? So so as usual..
I'll rate it 5..nothing fantastic
*sigh*
The other 2 dishes I couldn't get a picture of cause I was too busy cracking those Crustaceans to bother but they were kalamari and another type of prawn..
The kalamari was all chopped up and deep fried and it was crunchy and sweet but it was kinda freaky eating it at 1st cause you could see all the eyes looking at you ..you know at the squid head they have to bulbous eyes? But once you get past that it's actually a rocking dish..especially with beer according to my bro (food connoisseur)..and the pran (lai liu ha) was a LETDOWN...it wasn't nice at all..*sigh*
So overall it costs us RM 200+ which is an "OKAY" price considering the amount of food we had..but for the quality I'll just rate it as "nothing special"..we should have chanced the deserted restaurant..
When we got home we moved on to sample the alcoholic beverages that my bro brought back from his trip...and here's what we drank last night
This was not bought by my bro..I just included it as "things we drank"
THIS IS WHAT HE BOUGHT!! Vodka from France..
The one above 'Wodka' was described by him as a cheap vodka....and the one below 'Grey Goose' is like a really expensive vodka..actually I don't really know what is he going on about with these 2 bottles..but he treats the "Grey Goose" like his baby so I could sort of deduce the difference between the 2 bottles is great.
The moment of truth..this glass is the 'wodka' drink..and it tasted like
ACETONE! That's probably the best way to describe this drink (Thanks J for this quote I'm about to use)
"If nail polish remover could be made into a drink..this is what it would taste like"
The moment it enters your mouth you probably would want to spit it back out..and when you swallow it leaves a burning trail all the way to your stomach...that's how bad it tastes when it's neat.
And this is Grey Goose..it tasted slightly better but still horrible..you could say more refined acetone
So we ended up mixing the vodka with Coca Cola and adding lemons in(however it should have been vodka with lime and shaved ice..oh well..improvisation)..it really covered the taste of the vodka and since Cola is sweet you really don't feel as though you are drinking anything alcoholic..So I guess this is why people get drunk so fast..and also since it's served mixed with carbonated drinks it seeps into the bloodstream faster (according to my all knowing brother)
Needless to say I was kinda tipsy that night since I did drank more that just vodka..I also had some Irish Coffee so I looked like this
Embarrassing photo..surprisingly I could still function normally after that..
So I drank a lot of water to stave of the effects of the alcohol and went to bed early since I had driving the very next day..
So as an ending to this post...a friendly reminder...
Alcoholic drinks maybe the 'coolest thing' ever at our age..however do drink responsibly and never ever ever lose control of yourself while drinking..you may think that the worst thing that could happen while you're drunk is people tagging bad photos of you on facebook but in reality it's so much more serious than that..you could be in danger such as being mugged or kidnapped while inebriated..so do drink moderately and within your limits..if you really feel tipsy..stop drinking and switch to sipping water every now and then...
Remember..
Drunk is SO NOT COOL...
